Business environment in Colombia

With access from both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, Colombia serves as a regional trade hub, attracting investors and exporters worldwide. A member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), interest in Colombia is driven by its business-friendly policies, economic and political stability and diversified economy. The Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement has helped solidify Canada’s established and rising trade and investment relationship with Colombia. The country remains committed to attracting foreign direct investment in power, infrastructure and energy sectors, where Canada is already a major investor and a recognized supplier of goods and services.

In 2016, the government signed a peace accord with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and is working towards finalizing a peace agreement with the National Liberation Army (ELN), the remaining guerrilla group. Additionally, the government is in the process of executing an ambitious infrastructure and renewable power generation program that includes road concessions, light rail transportation, social infrastructure, and non-conventional renewable power projects.
