Business environment in Tanzania

Export Development Canada (EDC) remains reactive in Tanzania as some non-credit risks (human rights and law enforcement mainly) arose in the past few years. The key sectors for Canadian investors and exporters are mining, infrastructure and transportation. Its economy is relatively diversified, with growth driven by a mix of agriculture, manufacturing, construction and services. Recent policy moves by the current administration, aimed at protecting domestic industry, have caused concern from foreign investors. Tanzania has largely completed its transition to a market economy, although the government retains a presence in sectors such as telecommunications, banking, energy and mining.
